Young Driver Coaching Programme
The Young Driver Coaching Programme is a three way partnership involving learner drivers, their parents, the driving instructor and the road safety team. Throughout the programme, parents are given support to help their son or daughter both before and after their driving test.
Following a trial period which showed real improvements in the safety of young drivers, this innovative and exciting scheme should make a significant reduction in the chances of young drivers having a crash.

Once the young driver has passed their driving test the newly qualified driver has access to a whole range of initiatives.
• List of Staffordshire County Council Approved driving
instructors
• Pre-driver resources
• Learning to Drive support involving the learner driver,
their families and approved driving instructor
• Pass Plus Extra workshop
• GreenRoad Technologies Safety Centre
• Ongoing support

A Process Evaluation of the Staffordshire Young Driver Coaching Programme Resources Pack
An evaluation of the early months of the project was commissioned by Staffordshire County Councils Road Safety Unit and carried out by a team from RoSPA and Keele University, funded by BNFL. This process evaluation reports on the success of the Resource Pack in improving the quality of private practice, for instance by resolving conflicts between the three members of the learning team and in updating parents knowledge of teaching methods and road rules. This report highlights the challenge of gaining (and sustaining) active parental involvement and describes the challenge of structuring conventionally unstructured private practice.
